SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A new bill introduced in Sacramento would require landlords to give tenants the option to report their “on-time” rent history to a credit bureau, allowing renters to build up their credit score. “There are 17 million renters in California, about 40% of our state. Right now, if you’re paying your rent on time on a regular basis, that doesn’t have any positive impact on your credit,” said Assemblymember Matt Haney (D-San Francisco).

It’s now in an environmental review process. The pubic can weigh in on the project from now through July 19. If all goes as planned, the project is expected to have a design build planned by 2026, with completion slated for 2035.
