Thanks for being a member of City Paper! Literally just asking questions: California Sen. Alex Padilla was forcibly removed from a press conference after attempting to ask questions of puppy killer and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. Secret Service and FBI agents shoved Padilla out of the room, wrestled him to the ground, and handcuffed him.

Thanks for being a member of City Paper! The D.C. Department of Buildings announced this week that it has issued slumlord Ali “Sam” Razjooyan more than 2,000 Notices of Infraction and nearly $2.3 million in fines across 81 of his D.C. properties. The enforcement action comes after a multiday inspection effort that began in April, shortly after City Paper’s most recent reporting on the landlord’s dealings.

Dan Caine’s testimony during a Senate hearing Wednesday declined to confirm statements from his boss, convicted felon and President Donald Trump, regarding Russia and the protests in Los Angeles. While Trump has downplayed Vladimir Putin’s suspected ambitions in Eastern Europe, Caine said he does not believe the Russian president will stop in Ukraine.

Thanks for being a member of City Paper! House rules: The House approved two pieces of legislation Tuesday that would repeal laws approved by the D.C. Council. The first bill would repeal a law that allows noncitizens to vote in local elections; the second would repeal a law that makes it more difficult for police to appeal disciplinary decisions and makes the process more transparent.
