The Reuters headline on Wednesday read, “Iran’s Khamenei dismisses U.S. nuclear proposal, vows to keep enriching uranium.”Reading that, anyone might believe that the region was gearing up for war and that talks between Washington and Tehran had collapsed. But on the very same day, the New York Times ran a story headlined, “U.S. Proposes Interim Step in Iran Nuclear Talks Allowing Some Enrichment.”This continued a stream of contradictory news stories that have been flying back and forth for days.

This edition of Cutting Through builds on the theme of my previous video. While the violence in Boulder and DC in recent weeks was very out of character for the movement for Palestinian rights, these actions did highlight the need to address some of the fierier rhetoric that, understandably, has become more common in this movement. It’s a complicated picture, as the rage we all feel at the ongoing genocide and the world’s indifference to or denial of it continues apace.

Murders in Washington. Throwing flames in Boulder. Vandalism in Paris. All of these have been in the news in recent days. As is so often the case, President Donald Trump’s administration sent out mixed messages over the Memorial Day holiday. Initial reports told us that the United States had reached an agreement with Hamas on a temporary ceasefire deal.

.@ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt’s vile and racist rant to a group of #Republican DAs last week showed the man and the organization he leads for what they really are - a wolf in sheep's clothing. https://t.co/EWsRWB9wV5

Alkhatib had the unmitigated gall to whine about #Palestinians calling him a traitor in protest. Can't imagine why anyone would think that of him...

What is anything anyone in the world can do to try to help the Palestinians who are facing a genocide that Ahmed won’t attack them for? Protest? He calls them angry and unhelpful. Boycott? He rejects it. Try to go on a boat to break the siege? He calls it self-righteous. https://t.co/iSHy610xG9
