MERRILL, Wis. (WJFW) — Last week a Lincoln County Jail inmate released on Huber for a job interview, never showed up for the interview and didn't return to the jail. On May 1, David Brown, 19, of Milwaukee, had a job interview in the city of Merrill but it was quickly learned, Brown never showed up for the interview, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff's Office report. It is believed Brown was picked up by Earnest Julien, 22, also of Milwaukee.

However, the Northwoods is a hotspot for another creature that has captivated the imagination of people not only in Wisconsin, but across the country. Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is steeped in Native American culture, and belief is strong in the Pacific Northwest and California.

RHINELANDER (WJFW) — The Hodag Dome was successfully re-inflated last week and the repair process continues to move forward. According to a Rhinelander School District news release, cables on the exterior of the Dome were adjusted, and patching of exterior holes was completed late last week. The maintenance team is now focused on patching remaining holes on the inside of the Dome and expects that work to continue through next week.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) — One of the stars of Tomahawk boys hockey team's Division 2 state hockey championship is signing with the Wausau Cyclones of the NA3HL. The Cyclones announced the move on Thursday afternoon, signing Tomahawk star defenseman Austin Lamer to a 2025-'26 tender agreement. The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), is the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior league and serves as a training ground and exposure and developmental avenue for hockey players.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) — A pair of local players will be playing for the Wausau Woodchucks this season. Keagen Jirschele, a Mosinee graduate and South Dakota State infielder/pitcher, and Nate Langbehn, a D.C. Everest graduate, a Wichita State pitcher, have been added to the Woodchucks the team announced on Tuesday. Both Langbehn and Jirschele are freshmen at their colleges. Langbehn is a 6-4 pitcher while Jirschele is most likely to play the infield with the Woodchucks.

VILAS COUNTY, Wis. (WJFW) — Vilas County's summer ATV/UTV trails will be opening Friday at 8 a.m. The Lakeland ATV Club, Landover ATV Club, Sayner Barnstormers, and St. Germain ATV Club; sponsors of the Vilas County funded trail and troute system, have spent many hours brushing, signing and performing trail tread maintenance to have the trails properly prepared for the upcoming season, according to a Vilas County Forestry, Recreation & Land Department release.

EAGLE RIVER, Wis. (WJFW) — The Northland Pines School District administrator will retire at the end next school year. According to a press release from Northland Pines School District, Scott Foster, the school district's administrator submitted his retirement resignation to the school board and will retire effective June 30, 2026. Next school year, the 2025-'26 term will be Foster's eighth year as district administrator and 26th in the Northland Pines School District.
Death investigation underway after missing person found dead in Portage County

TOWN OF LINWOOD, Wis. (WJFW) — A reported missing person was found dead in the town of Linwood in Portage County on Monday afternoon. At about 3:45 p.m. Monday, the Portage County Communications Center received a report of a missing person, who was believed to have gone fishing near West River Drive and County Highway HH, in the Township of Linwood, according to a Portage County news release.
