    Less than a minute after his number nine had been lit up in green on the substitution board, Tiago Coimbra latched onto a perfectly weighted long pass from Kareem Sow and burst into the York United penalty area. The Halifax Wanderers’ striker let the ball bounce a few times, and deftly lifted it over York goalkeeper Ivan Pavela with the outside of his right boot. The ball bounced once more, before nestling in the bottom right corner.

    For the first time since lifting the North Star Cup at ATCO Field in November, Cavalry FC return to Spruce Meadows for their 2025 home opener on Friday night. It is sure to be a celebratory occasion at the grounds as Cavalry FC supporters welcome their team home following that 2024 triumph, as well as a historic victory in the home leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup tie with Liga MX side Pumas in February. That match was played at Starlight Stadium.

The marquee match will be broadcast on TSN 3, as well as OneSoccer. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT / 7 p.m. ET.
