Although Saint Martin's Islam is now open for overnight stays for 2000 tourists per night, the lack of holiday makers has become a reason for worry for those involved in the tourism business in the only coral island of the country. Around a third of the number of tourists allowed to visit have travelled to the island in the first two days of December. Cruise ship owners and hoteliers in the island are blaming fear among the tourists due to the different regulations imposed by the government.

The 11-member family of Mohammed Saber arrived at Refugee Camp 26 in Cox's Bazar on August 5, fleeing the atrocities of the Arakan Army in the Maungdaw Township of Rakhine State, Myanmar. It's been almost a month since the family sought refuge, and they have been living with Saber's relative, Jomir Ahmed, who arrived at the camp in 2017 along with 740,000 other Rohingya who have fled the military crackdown by Myanmar junta troops.

Crowds had gathered on a small island to seek shelter after witnessing killings in the coastal town of Maungdaw, he said, but "many died on the spot", including one of his nephews, Noor Sadek. Others crawled and swam to reach neighbouring Bangladesh, he said.
