    National Grid has begun work on a new substation in Uxbridge Moor, as part of its planned £35 billion transmission investment between 2026-2031. The Uxbridge Moor substation in Buckinghamshire is set to be the largest new substation on National Grid’s network by gigawatt capacity and will connect “over a dozen” new data centres, National Grid said. Data centre connections at the new site will require around 1.8GW of new capacity.

Research by nonprofit energy organisation Regen, in collaboration with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), into the effectiveness of local energy planning and spatial planning found that the lack of expertise at local planning level causes delays and higher costs.

    News from the UK’s offshore wind sector as an offshore substation has been completed for SSE Renewables’ Dogger Bank C, and Orsted has awarded £100,000 funding as part of the community benefit fund for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind development. SSE Renewables has completed installation of a HVDC offshore substation at its Dogger Bank C offshore wind power plant.

    Energy suppliers that fell short of Ofgem’s standards when installing involuntary prepayment meters (PPMs) will pay £18.6 million back to at least 40,000 customers. Energy suppliers will pay a collective £5.6 million in compensation and write off £13 million worth of debt. Payments will range from £40-£60 for process misalignment, data quality and record keeping issues, to £1,000 for inappropriate installation, switch or use of PPM.
