    A Winchester mother will be taken to court by the council if she doesn’t pay £1,700 towards her deaf daughter’s transport to sixth form. Christine Wheatley, from Kings Worthy, sends her daughter to a specialist deaf sixth form in Newbury. Up until the age of 16, she received taxi journeys to and from school through her Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), funded by Hampshire County Council. Since leaving school and moving to college, this financial support from the council has stopped.

    Bob Larkin, a Winchester local and former police officer, recently began studying philosophy at the University of Winchester at the age of 75. After graduating from Peter Symonds College earlier this year, his partner and “biggest cheerleader” encouraged him to further his education. “The only way you can find people who want to talk about philosophy is to go to university,” he said.

    A sports therapist is running 253 miles to raise money for a children’s hospice charity. Alex Bance, of Spire Injury Clinic in Salisbury, will be running the distance between the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and two ‘Julia’s House’ children’s hospices in Dorset and Wiltshire, completely unaided, all to raise money and bring attention to the charity.

    The Bramshaw Golf Club players who took part in the charity challenge (Image: Bramshaw Golf Club) STAFF and members from Bramshaw Golf Club have raised more than £50,000 for charity. The participants took part in the annual longest golf day challenge, raising money for this year’s captain’s charities, MNDA, Cancer Research UK and the Disabled Golf Association.
