    A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a disabled resident of the Marklund home in Geneva in 2023, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. The victim was found to be pregnant last April and gave birth soon after, officials said. Isaiah Fields, 24, a former employee of Marklund, faces six to 30 years in state prison when he is sentenced, according to a news release Tuesday from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

    At its meeting Monday, the Indian Prairie School District 204 board approved a $2.3 million purchase of 6,000 new Chromebooks for students. All second-, sixth- and ninth-graders in the district will receive new Chromebooks next school year, which they will use for the next three to four years until they are due to be replaced again. Previously, the district replaced computers by elementary, middle and high school.

    The Kane County Board voted Tuesday to approve the appointment of Alex Arroyo of Aurora to fill the vacant District 7 seat on the board. The seat was left open after Monica Silva’s successful bid for Kane County coroner in the fall election. With her official resignation from the board on Nov. 30, 2024, the board had until the end of January to appoint her successor, according to state statute.

But one choice on the ballot is new: a candidate to represent their community on the Chicago Board of Education. Voters from each of the city’s 10 school districts will select one candidate to represent them, while 11 individuals from each district, including the board president, will be appointed by Mayor Brandon Johnson, comprising an expanded, 21-member school board.
