A TRAILBLAZING Easter Ross visitor attraction will celebrate a quarter century with its local community this weekend. To mark the Tarbat Discovery Centre’s 25th anniversary, it will be hosting an open day on Saturday (September 21). The free entry centre open day will include cake and drinks, along with a raffle, piper and activities for children. The main draw of the day is the opening of the new exhibition and book, Connections.

Three recycling centres will be reducing their opening hours from next month. Starting on Tuesday, October 8, Chanonry Recycling Centre in Elgin, Buckie’s Gollachy site and Keith HWRC will be open from 9am to 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday and 10am until 3pm on Sunday. The change is a result of this year’s budget saving measures from the Moray Council, where £19.2m of savings were needed to balance the budget.

A by-election hopeful supports the Scottish Government’s commitment to provide £40 million this year for affordable homes. SNP Candidate for the Highland Council by election in the Cromarty Firth ward, Odette MacDonald, has expressed her support for the housing boost. The £40m allocation will mean that local authorities can purchase properties in order to reduce temporary accommodation and bring vacant buildings back into use, the share received by the Highland Council will be £653k.
