Santiago Lastra first realised his love of cooking thanks to a packet of crackers. The Mexican-born chef, who was more interested in maths than anything else as a teenager, decided to try his hand at the basic crab dip that was listed on the back of the cracker box. The chef Hélène Darroze cooked her first apple tarte when she was just six years old. In fact, it was the dish that piqued the multi-Michelin-starred chef’s interest in cooking for others. “I was born in a pan,” Darroze says with a laugh. McLaren does things differently. Many manufacturers bring their brands into motor racing to sell cars, but McLaren was in Formula One for many years before it thought about building production cars. A glittering history of race and championship wins goes back decades, with the cars driven by legends including James Hunt, Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton and, of course, Bruce McLaren, who founded his eponymous company in 1963. It was not until 1992 that McLaren made its first production car.
