With just 150 metres to go on the brutal climb—its gradients spiking up to 19%—Pieterse rose out of the saddle and surged past Vollering, last year’s winner, to take the win by two seconds. It was only the second road race victory of her young career, following a stage win at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in 2023. “It took everything, but I’m really happy to get a victory here,” Pieterse said afterwards, breathless and beaming at the finish line.

You’ve landed at Porto Airport (OPO), now what? Unless you fancy watching your euros vanish in a taxi (30–40 EUR into the void), hop on the metro. Line E will get you to the city centre in about 30 minutes for a glorious 2 EUR. Cheap. Fast. Reliable. If you’re arriving late at night, you could splurge on a Bolt or Uber (around 15-20 EUR), but like… only if your suitcase has wheels and an attitude. The decisive move emerged from an intense 23-rider breakaway formed early in the antepenultimate lap after the second ascent of the Cauberg. Pieterse’s aggressive riding on the Geulhemmerberg on the final lap split the group further, leaving only five riders at the front, including Juliette Labous (FDJ-Suez) and Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ). Van Dijk launched a fierce attack with under 6km remaining, prompting Bredewold to bridge across.

Valencia Airport (VLC) is cute and compact—perfect for hopping off your flight and into the city ASAP. If you’re tempted to call a taxi, don’t. It’ll cost you around 20-25 EUR and you could spend that on literal litres of sangria. Instead, ride the Metro (lines 3 or 5) straight into the city centre for around 4.80 EUR. It takes just 25 minutes and yes, it’s air-conditioned. You’re welcome. Valencia’s public transport is smoother than a reggaeton remix.
