1 INTRODUCTION Non-selective beta-blockers (NSBB) use has been the cornerstone of portal hypertension management because of its beneficial effect on preventing first variceal bleeding and subsequent re-bleeding episodes.1, 2 NSBBs have vasoactive effects which are their main mechanism of action in reducing portal hypertension and its complications.
