AbstractBridging molecular information to ecosystem-level processes would provide the capacity to understand system vulnerability and, potentially, a means for assessing ecosystem health. Here, we present an integrated dataset containing environmental and metagenomic information from plant-associated microbial communities, plant transcriptomics, plant and soil metabolomics, and soil chemistry and activity characterization measurements derived from the model tree species Populus trichocarpa.

AbstractBacteriophages are abundant in soils. However, the majority are uncharacterized, and their hosts are unknown. Here, we apply high-throughput chromosome conformation capture (Hi–C) to directly capture phage-host relationships. Some hosts have high centralities in bacterial community co-occurrence networks, suggesting phage infections have an important impact on the soil bacterial community interactions.

1. IntroductionRewetting of dry soil has a significant impact on soil organic carbon and nitrogen pools [,,]. When soil has undergone a prolonged drying event or drought, the soil microbial community responds in several ways upon rewetting []. There is often a rapid increase in decomposition and mineralization of soil organic matter (SOM) over the first ½ hour to 24 h depending on the sampling timing, which declines within the first 4 weeks [,,].
