CEBU CITY, Philippines — Despite a boat that ran aground, and minor delays, the fluvial procession for this year’s Fiesta Señor celebration went smoothly and peacefully. Over 500 vessels and more than 8,000 individuals joined the seaborne procession along Mactan Channel on Saturday morning, January 18, the Philippine Coast Guard in Central Visayas (PCG-7) said.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Mt. Kanlaon, one of the country’s most active volcanoes, erupted on Monday, December 9. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the eruption began at 3:03 p.m. and resulted in a three-kilometer high plume, with pyroclastic density currents descending from the slopes. Phivolcs has also elevated the Alert Level from Level 2 to Level 3, meaning Kanlaon is also experiencing magmatic eruption.

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A graduate of a Cebu-based university was among the topnotchers of the November 2024 Chemical Engineers Licensure Examination. Endrek Bernante Delos Santos of the Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) bagged the 6th spot in the list of top 10 passers of the recent board exams for apsiring chemical engineers. Delos Santos scored a rating of 89.40 percent.

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A shallow, 3.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Cebu on on Wednesday dawn, October 30. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the epicenter of the earthquake at six kilometers northwest of Minglanilla in southern Cebu, which occurred at 1:13 a.m.Initially, Phivolcs measured the temblor’s strength at a magnitude of 2.7 in the Richter scale but a few hours later, they revised their earthquake bulletin and upgraded it to 3.7 magnitude.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the epicenter of the earthquake at six kilometers northwest of Minglanilla in southern Cebu, which occurred at 1:13 a.m.Phivolcs classified it at as a tectonic quake. Tremors were also felt in other parts of Cebu, including the capital Cebu City which was located 19 kilometers north of Minglanilla.
