President Joe Biden’s age has affected his performance during his presidency, some AACC students, regardless of political affiliation, said. Some students said they noticed flaws and lack of structure in his speech over time, especially during the president’s debate against then-candidate Donald Trump. “He seemed to stumble over his words a lot, get a little confused, maybe a little tired.” Republican Alexis Schlichting, a second-year environmental science student, said.
’90s fashion returns to community college

Students are walking around campus wearing platform shoes, checkered flannel and cargo pants, keeping up with a national fashion trend that harkens back to the 1990s. When the weather was warmer, women students wore throwbacks like slip dresses, tennis skirts and crop tops to class. Now that the weather is cooler, maxi skirts, Doc Martens and cardigans are back in style. Some students wear ’90s fashion to express themselves.
STEM researchers win NSF grant of $600K

The National Science Foundation in August awarded AACC $600,000 for undergraduate research in science, technology, engineering and math. The college will use some of the funds to pay students and faculty to conduct STEM research, according to biology professor Seth Miller, who worked with other professors to apply for the grant.

Amaranth warns of AI generated media

The editors of AACC’s student literary journal said on Sept. 10 they are concerned writers might try to pass off AI-generated stories and artwork as original. Zoe Sharp, the editor-in-chief of the journal Amaranth, said it’s possible the staff will have to ask the artists who submit the work for publication if they created it without the help of AI. “I feel like, as Amaranth, we really want to see what students have made themselves,” Sharp said.
Texas State Bobcats shake up I-35 rivalry

The I-35 rivalry, named after the interstate highway that runs through San Marcos and San Antonio, first began in 2012. At the inaugural game, located at the Alamodome, the Roadrunners held their own and beat the Bobcats 38-31. After five years without a scheduled matchup, the rivalry was brought back to life in 2017 with the roadrunners dominating 44-14.
