Most bands don’t emerge onto the stage out of a rocket ship, but most bands aren’t Weezer. Donned in NASA-style flight suits, the LA-based quartet were welcomed to the stage by a nearly full Toyota Center, before immediately launching into a 90+ minute set. Formed in southern California in early 1992, Weezer has become one of the standout acts of the ‘90s.

Stadium shows always feel special. It starts before you even walk in the door, seeing thousands of other fans walking from their cars, pedal-cabs weaving down streets playing your favorite songs, and throngs of people gathering on the sidewalks. Once you reach your seat and are greeted with the vast expanse of a sporting venue, you truly feel like you’re a part of something.

The metal gods graced the Bayou City for the second time in as many weeks with the coming of Megadeth’s Destroy All Enemies Tour. With their most recent studio release dropping nearly two years ago, the elder statesmen of thrash metal embarked on this tour seemingly just for fun, and (as you’ll see from the photos to follow) fun it was.

Even before the first note rang out it was clear this show would be hard to top. The Ashes of Leviathan tour’s fully stacked lineup promised an evening of heavy riffs, screaming vocals, and crushing drums – and it did not disappoint.

It was a surprisingly early 5:30PM when the venue doors swung open to welcome the horde of eager metalheads. Frequent visitors to Space City, Amon Amarth brought their Metal Crushes All Tour to Bayou Music Center, alongside an opening lineup that promised an evening of the fast, heavy, loud stuff. Hailing from Tumba, Sweden, and taking their name from Tolkein’s Middle Earth, Amon Amarth are known for their melodic, mythology-filled brand of death metal.
