May 13-EPHRATA - Some elective offices in Grant County did not attract candidates during the filing period last week, so a second chance to file is scheduled for midsummer. Sometimes the filing period is scheduled immediately following the filing week, but Ben Rodwell, Grant County elections deputy, said there were 20-30 offices no one filed, including port districts and parks and recreation districts.

May 13-MOSES LAKE - Port of Moses Lake commissioners will cut the ribbon on a new $1.4 million building May 27. The new maintenance building will replace an existing structure, and Commissioner Darrin Jackson said replacement is overdue. "If there was one building that needs to go away, it was that one," Jackson said of the old facility. "Before it falls over."The cost was higher than initially estimated; additional electrical work was needed as well as work to meet updated building codes.

May 12—QUINCY — A Spokane man was booked into the Chelan County Regional Jail on suspicion of second-degree criminal impersonation after he allegedly attempted to stop a car by pretending to be a police officer May 8. Ronald Cowin, 62, was arrested near Quincy by a Washington State Patrol trooper, according to a WSP press release. Cowin allegedly had used red and blue flashing lights in his car to attempt to pull another car over.

May 12—EPHRATA — All three open seats on the Quincy City Council will be on the primary ballot, along with the Grand Coulee mayor's job and one seat on the Soap Lake School Board. The mayors of Ephrata and Quincy will also face challengers. Candidate filing for the 2025 election was last week. Three candidates filed for each of the Quincy council seats, meaning the field will be reduced on the primary ballot.

May 9—MOSES LAKE — The rebuilding of a 2.1-mile section of Westshore Drive west of Moses Lake has reached the sidewalk stage. Curbs have been poured along the route and construction crews were adding a base layer for the sidewalks Thursday. A power shovel and front loader dumped rock along the sidewalk course, which was spread partly by the shovel and partly by hand. Once that's done the material is compacted.
