As we wrap up 2024, it’s a moment to pause and reflect on the stories that have shaped our year. This year, StoryCorps continued its mission of elevating everyday voices. Through our animations, podcasts, and weekly spot on Morning Edition, we shared stories that remind us of our shared humanity and the power of connection. In 2024, we remained true to our mission: to help us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all — one story at a time.

For Mollie Reinhart, what changed things was the sound of a voice. That was the moment when the woman on the other end of the phone became human. Mollie had been doing volunteer work for the City’s Office of Community Wealth Building, pitching in here and there, finding fleeting moments of satisfaction knowing she was helping make someone’s situation better, particularly the low-income kids who make up as much as 37 percent of Richmond’s children.
