Local GROWING calls by some countries to give the disputed region of Western Saharawi autonomy have inspired the Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP), which says the secession resonates with their agenda for self-determination. Kenya last week became the latest country to support Morocco's plan to grant autonomy to the disputed Western Saharawi region. This move aligns Kenya with a growing number of African, Arab and Western countries backing Rabat in the decades-long conflict.

Tension is rising in Chiredzi’s Malipati area after several villagers were summoned by the local chief following a land dispute with their headman. The controversy began when villagers served their headman only identified as Manzini, stopping him from forcing them to donate land to third parties. Tazi Muchekelwa who is the defendant was summoned and was asked to appear before court at Davata Community Hall on May 28.

The 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, a non-profit initiative that honours the years the late Nelson Mandela dedicated to public service in his country and to humanity, will be launched in Victoria Falls this week. The celebration will take place in Jembwe, a rural village 30 kilometres outside Victoria Falls and will be attended by founder of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative Carolyn Steyn on June 2.

Local BULAWAYO residents are living in fear of machete-wielding gangs, who have unleashed a reign of terror, attacking defenceless victims leaving some nursing horrific injuries. It has been months since reports of machete gangs attacking and robbing their victims in the city’s high density suburbs first emerged. Last Wednesday, three residents from Emakhandeni suburb became the latest victims after they were ambushed and attacked by the machete gangs.
