Ireland backrow Aoife Wafer will join Premiership side Harlequins later this season. The 22-year-old was named 2025 Six Nations player of the championship last week, having previously been shortlisted for the award in 2024. The Wexford woman, who was also included in this season’s Six Nations team of the championship and the 2024 world Rugby team of the year, will leave Leinster for the west London club following the conclusion of the Rugby World Cup later this season.

Ireland’s Aoife Wafer has been named the 2025 Six Nations player of the championship following another impressive run in green for the 22-year-old. Wafer was shortlisted for the award alongside Abby Dow (England), Manaé Feleu (France) and Evie Gallagher (Scotland). Over 18,500 fans cast their ballot for player of the championship, with the Wexford backrower claiming 41 per cent of the vote.

Tickets for the NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park this September will go on sale on Tuesday, June 17th. On Tuesday, the Vikings were confirmed as the Steelers’ opponents for the first regular season game to be played in Ireland, which will take place on Sunday, September 28th. The staging of the game at Croke Park was first announced in February with the Steelers named as the designated home team.

The IRFU has announced it will discontinue the men’s sevens programme at the end of the season based on the findings of a review following the conclusion of the 2024 Olympic cycle. The union said the decision was taken as part of a “broader strategic effort to ensure long-term financial sustainability” and focus on key initiatives outlined in its strategic plan.

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) has reiterated its stance that the GAA’s new spilt season should be maintained. GPA chief executive Tom Parsons has hit out at “cheap remarks” that preseason competitions should be restored and All-Ireland finals returned to later in the year. The GPA lobbied for the establishment of the split season to afford intercounty players greater time off between club and county commitments.
