ISLAMABAD: A kidnapping case has been registered against unidentified officials of Islamabad police more than two months after they allegedly picked up a citizen from the rural area of Islamabad, Dawn has learnt. This was the second kidnapping case registered against officials of the capital police in about two weeks. The case has been registered at the Bhara Kahu police station in response to a complaint lodged by Sanaullah.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has informed the National Assembly that the capital police have brought down the crime rate by 31pc in 2024 as compared to 2023 despite their engagements and responsibilities to maintain law and order and give security cover to visiting dignitaries and foreign diplomats residing in Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police chief has ordered a departmental inquiry after a resident of Tarlai informed the Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi that police officials extorted money from him by threatening to implicate him in a false case. Haji Liaquat Ali Mughal, who identified as chairman of a local community organisation, approached the police chief at an open court held at the IGP office to share his ordeal and demand the money back from the police.

ISLAMABAD: Over 900 people, including women, were abducted and 152 sexually assaulted or molested in the capital in the year 2024. A police officer told Dawn that the police registered at least 891 cases of kidnapping and 152 cases of rape or unnatural offence during the year. He said the kidnap victims included 483 girls (majority teenagers), 306 men and boys and 150 women.

ISLAMABAD: As the Afghan embassy expressed concerns over the arbitrary detention of Afghan nationals in Islamabad, the capital administration said the crackdown only targeted undocumented citizens, with 183 Afghan nationals reportedly deported by the authorities during the current month.
