1 Introduction Asthma is a common chronic respiratory disease, with a prevalence previously shown to be 5.5% [1-3]. Asthma is a heterogenous disease which may present as one of several endotypes and clinical phenotypes, based on the underlying biological mechanisms of the disease [4]. Allergic asthma is the most common asthma phenotype, it is characterized by early disease onset, immunoglobulin E (IgE) sensitisation to the causative allergen and a type 2 (T2) inflammatory response [5].
