On Saturday, the family of a man who died in a bike accident earlier this year gathered in northeast Rochester to honor his life. The event was less a mournful remembrance and more a celebration filled with laughter, bubbles, and memories. Jerome Blocker, 62, of Rochester, was killed while riding his bike following a crash at Norton and North Streets on Feb. 21, 2025.

The City of Rochester, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and other outdoor organizations, will host the third annual Cobbs Hill Learn-to-Fish Event on Saturday, April 26. The event will take place at Lake Riley Lodge in Cobbs Hill Park. Betsy Ukeritis, an educator with the DEC, said the event includes a number of accommodations to make fishing more accessible to people of all abilities.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Brittan Hardgers was on the brink of crying as he stood at the podium, delivering his heartfelt message to the ailing community. The crowd of about 100 people filled First Unitarian Church last Sunday to honor the life Katelyn Rinetta Benoit, a 15-year-old transgender girl who committed suicide at school in late March.

Music lovers in Rochester celebrated Record Store Day on Saturday: a tradition that’s keeping vinyl culture alive. Record Store Day is a nationwide event that celebrates independent records stores, and gives fans a chance to discover new music and take advantage of local promotions. At Record Archive, dozens lined up before doors opened. Jacob Joanette arrived at 6 a.m.—four hours early—to ensure he’d get his top picks. “I got a Lil Uzi, Gunna, and Young Thug,” he said.

Maps, charts and dozens of family photos cover the walls of Solomon Titus Taylor’s apartment in Rochester. For almost 20 years, he’s been documenting his family’s ancestry. Taylor started his initial research by going through books of information about his family lineage kept by his grandfather. That lead him to family census data on Ancestry.com. The book sparked his curiosity and motivated him to go to Ancestry.com to find his family census records.
