South African retailers with old stock of light bulbs that don’t meet the compulsory specifications enforced by the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition, have until November 2025 to sell these units. Trade and industry minister Ebrahim Patel published South Africa’s new light bulb regulations in May 2024, which came into effect on 24 May 2025.

EWN reports that the Western Cape Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE) has announced an additional 1,100 operating licences for e-hailing drivers and metered taxi operators in Cape Town. The Western Cape E-hailing Association has welcomed the announcement after the PRE reviewed supply and demand across Cape Town. The municipality recommended supporting more operating licences to ensure enough rides are available for commuters in the metro.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) is calling on Transport Minister Barbara Creecy to waive fines and the requirement for temporary licences for those whose licence cards are stuck in the backlog. Stefanie Fick, the executive director for accountability, has written to the minister and asked her to consider extending the validity period for all cards to 10 years.

Ordering a meal on Mr D and Uber Eats is substantially more expensive than buying it directly from the restaurant, even when excluding their respective delivery and service fees. MyBroadband compared the price of ordering food from five popular outlets in-store to buying the same food items through Mr D and Uber Eats. We found that markups on food ranged from 14% to 40.5%.
