Jim Clohessy of TopFisher.eu found the fish on Saturday but getting them to bite was another story…Wednesday 18 June was one of the nicest forecasts so far this year. My usual victims were all unavailable so I went on a solo run. I do love a solo run from time to time however there’s no doubt that having crew makes the day easier all round.

These seemingly simple hard plastics needle style lures that were I think primarily designed for Sea Trout...

Paddy Dunworth of Celtic Angling reports from the Maigue:Today I was guiding Joseph O’Connor who’s party is staying at Adare Manor. Joe’s a 3rd generation Irish-American who lives in Pennsylvania. At 79 years young he was at pains to impress upon me that his fly-fishing mileage was on the low side, and challenging low water levels are really only for advanced fly-fishers. However, the luck o’ the Irish came in the form of a 4 inch rise on the river Maigue following rain over the previous 24 hours.

Cobh S.A.C report on their 3rd club Master Angler competition…Cobh S.A.C fished the 3rd Leg of the Master Angler Series on Sunday, 15th June 25. Ten anglers participated in the competition fishing from one boat, Deora De. The angling zone was an outer reef east of Roches Point fished at anchor. The fishing started slowly with a mixture of Pollack, Wrasse and Grey Gurnard.
Results of third Brown Tag Draw for the Roughty River

On Thursday June 12th, a draw took place to allocate 18 Brown Tags for the taking of salmon on the Roughty River. The requirement to hold a brown tag is set out in Wild Salmon and Sea Trout Tagging Scheme (Amendment) Regulations, signed into law by the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, T.D. More information on the Roughty River brown tag lottery is available here. A total of 42 valid entries were received from salmon rod licence holders.
Tough conditions for 3rd round of Athy Anglers Summer League

Des Bridgette reports on the third round of the Athy & District Anglers Summer League which was fished on Sunday…We held the third leg of our Summer League which was also open to members not in the league. Conditions were very hard. Well done to Tommy Cahill on winning the match with 6lb 15 ozs. In 2nd place was Des Bridgette with 4lb 7ozs. Taking 3rd place was Paula O’Neill on 3lb 7ozs.
Blackwater Salmon anglers seeing a few fish, catching them too

Noel Fitzmaurice from the Blackwater Fishery has the following report from the river…We are beginning to see a few more fish in the system in the last couple of weeks. However the numbers are far lower than we would expect for this time of year. With that said, we salmon anglers are nothing if not the eternal optimists. Some of our visitors were lucky enough to pick up a few fish along the way. We are hopeful for the months ahead.

John Browne reports on the third round of the Oaklands Summer League fished at the weekend…On Sunday at Oaklands we ran the 3rd round of our Summer matches. Breezy conditions all day but no rain thankfully. John Browne was in winning form on the day netting 61.690 kg. A close 2nd was Paddy O’Neill with 55.460kg and 3rd was Andrei Pirchio bagging 34.670kg.
