    Member LargePeopleLiveHere posted that recently, he had a leak in a water pipe in a very textured kitchen ceiling. He had to remove a section of drywall to access the pipe and is planning to repair the hole with a patch with extra blocking, drywall, tape, and compound. He’d like to know if there’s any other prep required, such as removing any other damaged, damp drywall or concealing the water stains, which he was planning on painting with a stain-blocker.

    I’m an overconfident DIYer building a downstairs bedroom near the furnace and water softener. For noise control I’m using two layers of 5/8-in. drywall on the walls and ceiling, for a total of 1-1/4 in. I need to put a couple of outside corner beads on the chase that surrounds some ducts. If I try to install standard steel corner beads, the nails or screws would miss the wood framing entirely.

    These are the last steps before priming and painting, and this process sets the stage for a great-looking finished room. With the fill coat dry, it’s time to work on the finish coat. First, I quickly sand all the seams and the inside corners with a pole sander and 220 grit sandpaper. Sand before the finish coatThe goal with sanding at this stage is to feather out both the compound start-and-stop spots and the tool marks so that the finish coat will go on smoother.
