Marijuana and Delta-8 THC RegulationLawmakers spent much of 2024 negotiating changes to Ohio’s recreational marijuana laws, with little progress. Efforts to ban delta-8 THC, an unregulated derivative sometimes called “diet weed,” also stalled. Senate President Matt Huffman, who will take over as House Speaker in 2025, has expressed a desire to address flaws in the state’s marijuana initiative passed by voters, which is also a priority for Gov. DeWine.

Gubernatorial Veto Overrides Before breaking for the holidays, the House voted to override a veto of legislation to preempt any local authority from regulating tobacco products. The Senate is expected to do the same. This will impact city ordinances enacted across Ohio to ban flavored tobacco and vaping products and implement age restrictions. To be determined is whether the legislature will implement their own framework to regulate these products.

Issue 1 – The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and SafetyThe original 1851 Ohio constitution had 16 articles and 169 sections. The present document has 19 articles and 225 sections. To date, there have been 170 amendments. Issue 1, if approved by the voters, would add Section 22 to Article I of the Ohio Constitution.
