Cyclic thiocarbonyl compounds have recently become attractive monomers for the radical polymerization of degradable polymers. (1,2) These moieties provide an advantage when compared to the analogous cyclic ketene acetals (CKAs) (3) because of their stability under ambient conditions, synthetic versatility, reduced side reactions during polymerization, and the thermodynamically favored formation of the carbonyl group upon ring opening.
