Around 3.6 million people over the age of 50 have opted to work part-time, a 12% increase since 2021, according to Office for National Statistics data. Flexibility, caring responsibilities and work-life balance are among the reasons many making the switch, the Guardian reports. Financial struggles and low pensions are also driving over-50s to find part-time work.

WFH Research's latest working paper, published by Stanford’s Institute for Economic Policy and Research, found that working remotely full-time is associated with 10%-20% lower productivity. The researchers said that challenges to productivity lay in less efficient communication and a lack of motivation when working remotely.
