They urged council to help with the search of a location outside of the Great Miami River floodplain, where current Junior Baseball fields were built on donated land at County Road 25A and Eldean Road. One suggested solution was including fields in a city parks and recreation plan that will be updated later this year. Consultants hired by the city are beginning that process.

The festival last year drew more than 100,000, she said. The 2025 Strawberry Festival will include entertainment on two stages as well as past popular events such as the car show on Sunday in Troy Community Park.

For Paul Wick, president of Troy Junior Baseball, a flood this spring meant numerous evenings over a month at the fields just to prepare one for a game. Approximately 400 youth are playing in the program, fewer than in the past, he said, adding a few are returning after leaving for other programs. They are coming back because they cannot afford to or are tired of traveling elsewhere for their children to play.

The first phase of the post-fire recovery process is complete. This was the emergency response to the fire including securing the site, cleaning up, demolishing as needed both the burned interior and the later additions to the tavern. That removal of additions exposed some of the original structure’s log walls. Everything that could be salvaged from the museum was removed and taken to another downtown building where it was sorted, photographed and sent to a conservator.
