Star NSW sprinter Good Odds Cobber has edged out VINCENT BALE in a thrilling finish to the Group 1 Gold Bullion (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night. Booking a direct passage into the Gold Bullion decider with victory in the Group 2 Golden Ticket a fortnight ago, NSW-trained Good Odds Cobber made full use of the final berth and box one draw, staving off Victorian VINCENT BALE over the concluding stages to score by a half-head in 29.67 and secure a second career Group 1.

Good Odds Cobber continued his love affair with Albion Park on Thursday night with a thrilling victory in the Group 2 Golden Ticket final. ‘The Cob’ jumped brilliantly in his two-dog match race with SMOOTH PLANE, forging across to find the front from Box 3 before kicking out to a three-length lead down the back. His second section of 11.39 had race caller John Brasch audibly excited as they turned for home, with the NSW star fending off his classy Victorian rival to win in a hot time of 29.50.

All eyes will be on the Richmond Straight this Thursday with heats of the $25,000 to the winner Ladbrokes Richmond Straight Cup to be run. A definite starter in Thursday's Cup heats will be Just A Monarch, who has scored five wins and a second from his past six races up the Richmond straight. "In all but one of those wins Just A Monarch has come out last and still got the cash,'' trainer Garry Coles said.

The $100,000 middle distance feature, which is entering its fourth year, kicks off with the opening regional heat at Nowra on Monday, March 3 before the preliminaries move to Gosford, Richmond, Casino (which doubles as ‘The Richmond’ final), Dapto, The Gardens, Dubbo and Temora.

For years upon years, Central West stalwarts Dennis and Ann Barnes have been travelling North to Queensland in the hope of securing some of chasing’s biggest trophies. They’ve come close on several occasions, but until last night, they’d never tasted victory in a Group 1 feature final at Albion Park. The greyhound with an affinity for Brisbane loam broke the draught and handed the Barnes kennel a maiden Group 1 triumph in the $100,000 Golden Sands final (600m).
