In 1967, two women illegally ran the Boston Marathon. At the time, women were barred from participating in marathons. In fact, it wasn’t until 1960 that women were even allowed to compete in the Olympic 800m (½-mile) event—from which women had been banned since 1928 due to false reports that they collapsed after competing. The reasoning? It was widely believed that running could harm a woman’s health.

I delivered my daughter using a birthing stool and 2 yoga blocks under my feet to help me bear down and push. My midwife’s assistant barely caught my baby when I finally managed to release her from my body.

When I got pregnant for the first time, I didn’t officially know I was pregnant until I was about 14 weeks along, already in my second trimester. It’s not so much that I didn’t know. There were some obvious signs, like not getting my period for 3 months.
