Naamsa, the automotive business council, revealed that despite a last-quarter boost, new vehicle sales in 2024 fell overall by three percent to 515 712 units compared to the 531 775 units sold in 2023. All indicators point to an equally challenging 2025, although a potential rebound to pre-pandemic sales levels is still possible if key economic indicators on the local front continue to improve.

There is nothing like shooting the breeze with the top down while driving the coastal route of Clarence Drive in the Mother City, arguably one of the most scenic drives in the world. That’s exactly what I did recently at the launch of the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet. The drive is unmistakably Mercedes. Stylish good looks, a plush, luxury interior and the sound from the Burmester speaker system was just apt for the drive.

Suzuki SA is hitting the sales figures out of the park. Think about this: 6000 units across the board were sold in Mzansi for October 24 alone. That’s about 194 vehicles per day. Leading the sales charge was the venerable Suzuki Swift with 1 179 units sold — 985 of which were the fourth-generation variant. Now that is saying something! I had the opportunity to test drive the fourth generation Swift in Cape Town recently and I just liked everything about the Swift. ALSO READ | Business or pleasure?
