A charity set up in 2005 to help residents access support says it cannot believe its latest project is to help keep people warm. The Shores Centre in Withernsea, East Yorkshire, has handed out winter packs, which included heated gilets, to those struggling with the cost of living. Chief executive Jayne Nendick said: "We are hearing statements about heat or eat. People are struggling on both. We are not just providing warm stuff but also food.

A paraplegic golfer is to represent Europe in a tournament inspired by the Ryder Cup. Terry Kirby, from East Yorkshire, has no feeling from the chest down and plays in a wheelchair. The 68-year-old will compete against the US in the 30th Phoenix Cup, for golfers with disabilities, at St Andrews, in Scotland, next week.
