•Pan-Canadian health human resources (HHR) planning is required to ensure a sustainable, equitable and cost-effective health care system. •Pharmacy has traditionally not been part of Health Canada’s HHR planning processes, despite being the third largest health profession. •As the scope of practice expands and reliance on pharmacists in primary care grows, there is greater interest in including pharmacy in pan-Canadian HHR planning.
