The key to success is “light touch, innovative regulation”, as the message from financial advisers is clear, “let us get on with it”, Conservative MP for Havant Alan Mak has said. The Shadow Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology made these comments at the TISA Big Picture Conference 2025 on 10 June. Mak referenced shadow chancellor Mel Stride who has said that the proportion of those working in regulation compared to those in financial services has shot up since the 1980s.

It would be a “major handicap” if financial advisers stopped fundraising for Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs). This is what Beringea managing partner Stuart Veale told Money Marketing. Veale added that the majority of funds that Beringea raises for VCTs comes from advisers, “roughly around 75%”. Veale said that Beringea often has both webinars and individual calls with advisers. “We work very closely with advisers,” he said.

Nucleus Financial Platforms has completed the acquisition of Third Financial, following regulatory approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in May this year. Third Financial is an investment platform and front-to-back wealth management software provider, serving discretionary wealth managers, multi-family offices, and adviser consolidators. The acquisition, which was first announced in February, “significantly expands” Nucleus’s capability in the adviser-as-a-platform space.
