Ottawa police are investigating after at least two Centretown businesses were broken into, vandalized and robbed overnight Saturday. The incidents happened at local grocer Red Apron and Arlington Five, a café, both small businesses in the same neighbourhood. Ottawa police is not confirming whether the two incidents are connected. Police did not confirm charges or arrests Sunday.

It’s more expensive to get ready for the Easter holiday this year because the cost of chocolate has gone up. It’s a phenomenon being felt around the world because of a global cocoa shortage. Chocolate store owners say there’s no relief in sight and they’ve been forced to increase prices. “It is very difficult to adapt,” said Heinrich Stubbe, Stubbe Chocolates owner.

Ottawa residents have likely noticed more Canadian flags and signs popping up at stores across to signal what is locally made. The ‘Buy Canadian’ movement continues to grow across the country as trade tensions with the United States drag on. For local small businesses, it’s a chance to show support for the country. Cedar and Co. Food Market in the Glebe has not only put up signs for what’s made in Canada, they have also pulled most of their American products off store shelves.

The City of Ottawa is conducting a study on the future of active transportation in the downtown core and is looking at ways to improve transit service on Bank Street. The option of bus-only lanes on Bank Street are off the table, but the city is looking at the possibility of implementing bus lanes during peak times in the Glebe, possibly altering the stretch of Bank Street from Highway 417 to the Rideau Canal. There are also calls for a similar option in Centretown.
