The University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College is seeking donations from the public as it rebuilds its surgery center at the Large Animal Hospital there. According to Horse + Sport, two operating suites and five recovery rooms flooded earlier this year due to a burst pipe, severely limiting equine emergency services at the facility. The Large Animal Hospital is the only facility offering round-the-clock emergency care for horses in Ontario, according to Horse + Sport.

Intra-articular corticosteroids are an effective option for joint lameness in horses, but most trainers and veterinarians would probably tell you they want to make the treatments as effective as possible to reduce their frequency. Equus magazine reported this week on a peer-reviewed study that suggests one thing owners can do that may increase the effectiveness of hock injections. The magazine reviewed a study which followed 45 horses who were given corticosteroids to treat hock lameness.

According to trainer Aidan O'Brien, Kyprios was an unlikely recovery story, having suffered from an infected fetlock joint in 2022 that nearly killed him.
