The Tri-State Coal Cats (6-9) look to bounce back with a six-game home stand after a number of losses on the road. The Coal Cats entered the road trip following a back-to-back doubleheader loss to the Greenville Flyboys, 7-1 and 9-4. The Cats started the road trip being swept by the Pulaski River Turtles with two unfortunate losses, the first loss being especially close with a pitching battle score of 3-2 – the Cats’ bullpen throwing five scoreless innings.

The West Virginia Black Bears Baseball team looks to bounce back after a hard walk off loss against the State College Spikes to even up the series on Saturday, June 7. The Black Bears did take an early 4-1 lead in the fourth, but the Spikes clawed back for a wild pitch walk off in the bottom of the ninth.

The Tri-State Coal Cats (2-2) fell to the losing side of a come-from-behind 10-5 loss against the Pulaski River Turtles (3-1). The River Turtles, based out of Pulaski, Virginia, exploded in the ninth inning when the team’s offense scored six runs on three hits and three walks to earn their third straight win and put the team into first place in the Appalachian East Division.

Marshall Director of Athletics Christian Spears and Marshall have mutually agreed Spears will leave the school at the end of his contract, a report from ESPN said. The ESPN report also said “(Spears will) stay on as athletic director until the school finds a replacement.”Spears’ time as athletic director saw three conference championships (one football, one men’s soccer and one women’s basketball) and almost an entire refresh of hiring over nine head coaches and directors during his three years.
