In 1990, the share of men with no close friends was just 3 percent. In 2021, it was 15 percent. The Survey Center on American Life finds that 28 percent of men under 30 have no close social connections.

A vote on the Laken Riley Act—an illegal immigration crackdown that would require Homeland Security to detain migrants arrested for burglary, theft, or shoplifting. The quick move from the newly (and narrowly) re-elected Speaker was no surprise. Voters handed the GOP unified control of the federal government in no small part because of their promise to control illegal immigration.

    Though separated by just a few miles, Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties—both nestled northwest of Santa Fe—are worlds apart politically. Los Alamos, home to the eponymous laboratory, is more than two-thirds white and the wealthiest county in New Mexico. A whopping 68 percent of residents have a bachelor’s degree and 43 percent have a postgraduate degree. The median household income approaches $150,000. In short, chock full of elites.

    A record 10 states voted on ballot initiatives in November that would protect or expand abortion access. Seven measures passed, including those in the presidential battlegrounds of Nevada and Arizona. The 70 percent success rate is further evidence that Americans are decidedly pro-choice. But after past wins in deep-red states like Kansas and Kentucky, losing even three initiatives was a tough blow for those hoping to expand abortion access. Two such disappointments were in South Dakota and Florida.
