This Memorial Day, The World Newspaper would like to highlight the efforts of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3440 in Bandon. The Frank C. High Medal of Honor Post aims to give a sense of purpose and camaraderie to veterans of oversees conflicts through community service and engagement. Affectionately known as ‘The Post’, VFW 3440 was formed in February, 1936, by its now-namesake Frank C. High, along with a group of 26 other veterans.

In a search warrant execution that lasted four days and involved more than eight agencies, animals were finally relocated from West Coast Game Park Safari. The roadside zoo has long drawn complaints and regulatory citations culminating on May 18 with 310 animals living in subpar conditions being seized and sent to more reputable facilities and sanctuaries for specialized care.

On May 14, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released their preliminary findings on the HondaJet that failed to stop upon landing in North Bend. The incident, which took place early in the morning on April 7, saw the plane end up in the bay injuring its 5 passengers.

May 14 was an exciting day for many of Marshfield High’s graduating seniors, as the annual scholarship assembly was held in the auditorium. The Marshfield High School Community & Memorial Scholarship Fund has grown to oversee 182 different scholarships which are awarded to students via a 19-member selection committee.

The Coos Watershed Association’s (CoosWA) biggest event of the year, the Mayfly Festival, returns to Mingus Park on May 17, 2025. In addition to a free family friendly day filled with music, food, and fun, the fest is a great chance to learn more about how crucial waterways effect all of our lives here on the South Coast. “That’s the message of the whole festival, is that we live in a watershed and not many people know that,” said Alexa Carleton, Outreach Program Manager for the CoosWA.
