Quinn Garry and Joe Ladocsi, Weston — Both senior captains were sharp for the Wildcats (6-0) in wins over Waltham (9-4), Brookline (12-3), and Hopkinton (10-5) with Ladosci compiling 11 goals and two assists while Garry added nine goals and two assists.

St. John’s Prep shrugged off a challenge from Lincoln-Sudbury last week to extend its multi-year win streak against in-state competition and hold the top spot in the Globe’s Top 20 boys’ lacrosse poll. L-S bounced back quickly with decisive wins over Needham and Xaverian, and Walpole jumped Needham for a 14-10 win Tuesday to vault into the Top 10.

Bussy Adam wanted to come back to coaching, but didn’t think he would return to Newton North, where he accumulated a state record 457 wins over 32 years as head coach. But after a long conversation with new coach George Jenkins, the legendary coach decided to return as an assistant last year, and he was thrust into spot duty as head coach once again Thursday with Jenkins at the hospital for the birth of his son. The result was a thrilling 7-6 overtime win over Bay State Conference rival Natick.

Both defenses have been dominant to open the 2025 campaign, with Reading (3-0) allowing just eight goals in three wins over top-notch opponents, while Duxbury (3-1) held three opponents to two goals in wins, and fell, 6-4, in a defensive battle at reigning Division 2 champion Longmeadow. “I would argue our defense has been special for a long time,” said Reading second-year coach Rob Parkin, who spent several years as a defensive assistant under Charlie Hardy.
