Former State Representative and Baxter Police Captain Dale Walz dies at 59

Former State Representative Dale Walz who represented the Brainerd Lakes Area in the Minnesota House for two terms has died at the age of 59 on June 8th in Arizona. Walz served as the 12A representative as a Republican from 2001-until-2004. Walz worked in law enforcement for 21 years. Beginning in his hometown of Pierz, then in Randall before finishing his career as a Captain with the Baxter Police Department. He retired in 2005 after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
Cass County Sheriff's Office Revising Slow Wake Suggestion

With the busy boating season quickly approaching, Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk reports that his office is revising its suggested Slow Wake on Cass County lakes, rivers, and waterways to 200 feet from shorelines, in channels, and entering bays. The change is due to unusually high water levels from recent rainfall events. While some lakes have seen relief from high water, there are still several areas that are experiencing high water levels.
City of Brainerd Requesting Proposals for Affordable Housing Aid

The City of Brainerd is requesting proposals for projects for affordable housing aid, the city received around 96-thousand-dollars from the statewide affordable housing aid. The program was started in 2023 to help counties, tribal nations, and local governments preserve affordable housing, funds from this aid program must be spent on a qualifying project by December 31-st, four years after the aid was received.
Brainerd Parks Board Discuss Future of Proposed Rotary Riverside Park Solar Panel Project

The Brainerd Parks Board discussed the future of a proposed project at Rotary Riverside Park. The Rotary Club has secured a grant for part of the funding to put in solar panels on the pavilion in the park. The city, as of now, is not willing to cover the rest of the cost, Brainerd Public Utilities Commission members have shown interest in paying the balance.
