In his latest budget proposal put forth by the White House cuts of over $700 million to adult education programs, over $300 million cut from preschool development programs and continued cuts at the Department of Education which he has vowed to close down. Many Democrats in the US were stunned after the defeat of Kamala Harris last November in the Presidential election. A second term for Donald Trump and Republican control of both houses of the US Congress meant they were left with little to no power in Washington DC. An internal debate about what went wrong paralyzed the party for months and it is essentially without a national leader. The renowned Chinese think tank, the Center for China and Globalization, held their annual meeting. It was a rare opportunity for former diplomats, policy makers and academics to share their views on the China-U.S. relationship.
