Gliding down Petaluma’s D Street, my 4-year-old daughter seated on our cargo bike, a profound sense of joy and freedom strikes me. Our big smiles, the wind in our hair, the elegant homes passing us — nothing beats that feeling. This simple act of riding a bike is liberating. And I don’t believe our biking bliss should be the exception in Petaluma. As citizens we all pay for our streets. We get to choose what our city will look like and what values it embodies.

AbstractCoastal kelp forests are important sources of primary productivity and provide essential habitat and ecosystem services. In many areas around the world, the formation and persistence of urchin barrens threatens kelp forest ecosystems. Over the past several decades, restoration efforts have emerged aiming to increase the abundance of foundation species like kelp in such systems.

AbstractProjections for population viability under climate change are often made using estimates of thermal lethal thresholds. These estimates vary across life history stages and can be valuable for explaining or forecasting shifts in population viability. However, sub-lethal temperatures can also lead to declines in vital rates and ultimately shape fluctuations in the reproductive viability of populations.
