    Two of Vermont’s statewide housing advocacy organizations have joined forces. The Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition and the Vermont Coalition to End Homelessness recently merged and reformed as the Housing & Homelessness Alliance of Vermont (HHAV). Frank Knaack is the inaugural executive director of HHAV.     The United States Senate on Tuesday blocked an effort by Sen. Bernie Sanders that would have forced the State Department to review whether Israel is using U.S. military aid to violate human rights in Gaza. A group of 11 senators, including Sen. Peter Welch, supported Sanders' resolution, which was rejected 72 to 11. Sanders spoke on the Senate floor before the vote, flanked by large photographs showing crowds of Palestinian children.

School should also be a place where all students feel like they matter."Those are the words of 9-year-old Elias Urang, a fourth grader at Middlebury’s Mary Hogan School. He delivered them recently in a speech to the Addison Central School District (ACSD), requesting that a Black Lives Matter flag wave outside his school.

    Flooding caused by a combination of rain and snowmelt is possible Monday into early Tuesday morning as a storm brings an estimated 1 to 3 inches of rainfall to Vermont. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch covering all parts of Vermont, much of northeastern New York and western New Hampshire. Flood warnings are in effect Monday for much of the state, too. The weather service is predicting the highest amounts of rain in Brattleboro.
