    As many as 131 very important persons (VIPs) have been arrested in different cases filed on various charges, including murders, so far after the fall of the Awami League government due to the student-people uprising. Of them, 108 have been enjoying division in 15 prisons. According to sources at the Department of Prisons, 108 VIPs were given division as of 7 January.

    The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has identified seven gangs who were involved with leaking of question papers of different government recruitment tests. The gangs were involved with leaking question papers in nine recruitment tests including BCS and non-cadre posts. The gangs not only just leaked the question papers, they would rent houses where the examinees were tutored on the answers of leaked questions. The CID has already arrested 22 members of the gangs.

    A joint operation to recover the looted weapons and ammunition began on 4 September. According to police sources, as of 4 December, 4,331 firearms and 388,456 rounds of ammunition had been recovered. However, 1,419 firearms and 263,153 rounds of ammunition remain missing as of now. Wishing not to be named, several police officers told Prothom Alo that around 700 prisoners, who escaped during the July-August uprisings, are still at large.

    The interim government has reduced taxes and duties on soybean and palm oil to lower prices amid high inflation but this has not helped raise imports. Instead, there is a shortage of bottled edible oil in the markets. Oil importers and refiners said they have reduced imports apprehending losses as market prices were below what they would have to pay for purchases from abroad.

    Diesel supply in eight districts of Rangpur has been hampered due to the refusal of loco masters to work overtime and non-arrival of a scheduled consignment through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline from across the border. Due to the supply disruption, diesel shortages have occurred at fuel depots in the region at a time when farmers are busy cultivating Boro paddy and other winter crops. Demand for the fuel increases sharply in winter for irrigation.
