The Panthers' baseball team will play host to a semifinal contest for the first time in school history against Dunham to kick off the best-of-3 Division III select semifinals. Moreover, it's the first time since 2019 Catholic-New Iberia has reached the semifinals in pursuit of the Panthers' first state title since 2001.

    David Thibodaux's Jackson Jarrett has always been a long-distance kind of guy. From 800 meters all the way to cross country, Jarrett has run it. But by his own admission, 1600 meters is his preferred race. Wednesday at the District 4-4A meet at Comeaux, Jarrett claimed the top spot at his signature distance as he started the trek to the one thing that he most wants - a state title at 1600 meters. "My season so far has been pretty good," Jackson said.

    KAPLAN - It was a day for double winners at the District 5-3A meet held at Kaplan High on Tuesday. Maybe the biggest winner was Kaplan junior Kevin Small. The defending Class 3A state champion in the discus, he took his first step towards defending that title with a win in his signature event at the district meet and added a win in the shot put and a fourth place finish in the javelin, which means he heads to the regional meet next week in all three events.

    NEW IBERIA - Over the past generation or so, Catholic High of New Iberia has produced 15 state champions in outdoor pole vault - 27 total if you add indoor state titles as well. Led by 2021 Olympian Morgann LeLeleux Romero who, along with younger sister Reagann LeLeux, each with five outdoor state titles each,The list also included Gavin Gautreaux and Nick Russell with two titles each had Damian Breaux with one outdoor title.
