    [LONDON] The UK earlier this month announced free trade agreements (FTAs) with two of its biggest partners - the United States and India - as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer seeks to create new business opportunities and jobs in the world's sixth-largest economy. And just last week, the UK and the European Union agreed to reset their relations - nine years after the controversial Brexit vote. The deal includes agreements on defence, travel, migration and work, among others.

    [LONDON] Fresh from sealing its membership in one of the world’s largest trade pacts, the United Kingdom is ready to reap the benefits and help more companies grow their presence in new and existing markets, a top British official said. In December last year, the UK officially joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). With the UK on board as the first non-founding member, the CPTPP now spans five continents and nearly 600 million people.

    Rachel Reeves is struggling; her job is at riskThe harassed UK Chancellor of the Exchequer hoped that green infrastructure and home building would lift the economy. But her large payments to public sector employees and high taxation to pay for the spending has countered growth. Criticism is rife. Economic news has been poor week after week.  Reeves has asked advisors to seek alternative ways to grow the economy. Reeves, regarded as a “lightweight” has told regulators to “embrace risk” .

    [LONDON] British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves had hopes that investments in key areas such as green infrastructure and construction would lift the sluggish UK economy. Instead, the move last July to raise salaries for millions of public-sector workers and the decision to impose £40 billion (S$67.2 billion) to pay for this higher spending has countered most of the economic growth of late.
